Two individuals have been arrested following a successful joint operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and other law enforcement agencies. The operation, which took place in the Pandipieri area of Migori County, resulted in the dismantling of an illicit drug and alcohol syndicate.
During the operation, authorities seized a significant amount of illegal substances, including 384 rolls and 628 sticks of suspected marijuana, along with 21.5 liters of chang’aa (a locally brewed alcoholic beverage). Officers also confiscated dry green plant material believed to be cannabis, stored in various containers, including a plastic water bottle. In addition, two mobile phones were taken during the raid.
The suspects were apprehended at a house in Pandipieri, identified as a major drug trafficking hub. A thorough search of the property revealed further illicit materials, including 40 rolls and 230 sticks of suspected cannabis, 1.5 liters of chang’aa, uncustomed cigarette packets, more dry plant material believed to be cannabis, and an improvised black smoking device.
NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, praised the successful multi-agency collaboration. “This operation highlights the effectiveness of a coordinated effort to combat the spread of illegal drugs and alcohol. We remain dedicated to protecting communities from the devastating impact of substance abuse,” Dr. Omerikwa said.
He reiterated NACADA’s zero-tolerance policy toward drugs and alcohol, emphasizing that these substances destroy lives and families. “We cannot allow our communities to be overwhelmed by the destructive effects of substance abuse. These substances tear apart the fabric of society,” he added.
The confiscated items will undergo forensic testing, and legal action will be taken against the suspects as investigations continue. NACADA called on the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. “Together, we can create a safer and healthier environment for all,” Dr. Omerikwa concluded.
