Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has assured residents of enhanced performance and increased development under her administration in the coming year.
In a statement, Governor Kihika emphasized that the county is on the right path and her administration has implemented several programs, strategies, and policies aimed at improving the economy and quality of life for all residents.
“In 2024, we worked diligently to improve infrastructure, boost healthcare, empower our youth, and provide clean water and reliable services throughout the county. These achievements demonstrate our commitment to making Nakuru a place of opportunity, comfort, and shared purpose,” she said.
Looking ahead to 2025, the governor urged unity, hard work, and optimism. “Together, we will continue to strengthen our communities, create opportunities, and build a Nakuru we can all be proud to call home.”
Governor Kihika noted that the new year offers a chance to reflect on the progress made and to reaffirm the county’s dedication to becoming prosperous, united, and thriving, while creating growth opportunities for all.
Despite economic challenges and resource constraints, Governor Kihika stated that her administration had delivered strong results. She highlighted significant reforms in healthcare, ensuring accessible, efficient, and high-quality services despite a surge in patients from neighboring counties. Her administration also completed the construction of new health facilities and refurbished existing ones across all 11 subcounties.
On infrastructure, with support from the Members of County Assembly (MCAs), the county completed numerous road projects, built culverts, gabions, and bridges, and maintained hundreds of kilometers of drainage. She reiterated her administration’s commitment to providing clean and safe water for all, noting that various projects, such as drilling and electrifying boreholes and expanding water pipelines, had been carried out in 2023/2024.
Kihika also highlighted efforts to combat climate change, including the development of the Nakuru County Climate Action Plan 2023, the establishment of climate change planning committees in all 55 wards, and the planting of over one million trees. Additionally, waste disposal sites were improved, and various sites were greened.
A County Land Management System and an Electronic Development Application System (EDAMS) were introduced to streamline land management and development approval processes, increase revenue, and reduce human intervention.
The governor expressed her administration’s focus on fostering cooperation and partnerships to boost local, regional, and international trade. “We are working hard to create an investor-friendly environment to attract both local and international investors, ensuring the county is conducive to both small and medium enterprises and larger investments,” she said.
She also emphasized the county’s potential to create job opportunities for youth and residents, pledging to continue efforts to enhance healthcare, water access, agriculture, and the cooperative movement. Furthermore, the administration is committed to resolving long-standing land disputes in collaboration with the national government while safeguarding essential public utilities.
Kihika promised to improve the working conditions of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers and focus on upgrading facilities at early childhood learning centers.
