Billy Mwangi, who was freed by unknown abductors on Monday, has denied any connection to several X accounts operating under his name.
The Embu resident, who reunited with his family on January 6 after being missing for over two weeks, addressed the matter in a video shared on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his ordeal.
“This is Billy Mwangi. The people using my Twitter accounts and creating parodies are not me. I am not on Twitter. My account was hacked, and my phone was taken. I will update you in due course if anything changes,” he clarified. Mwangi also extended his appreciation to his online supporters and the Embu community for their solidarity.
“To my Twitter family, I love you so much. To all comrades from Nairobi to Embu, thank you for your incredible support,” he added.
Mwangi disclosed that he endured a harrowing experience during his captivity, which has taken a toll on his mental health. “Even though they shaved me, I’m back, healthy, and recovering slowly,” he said. “Mentally, I’m still not okay, but I’ll be fine with time.”
Before his abduction, Mwangi was known for his activity on an X account with the handle @Psychosins. The account vanished hours after he was forcibly taken and bundled into a car. Following his release, several X accounts claiming to be his emerged, including one with the handle @BillyMwangi_1, which has garnered over 9,000 followers.
One tweet from the account, shared 17 hours ago, stated: “I will never use the name Psychosins again in my lifetime. It has caused me a lot! APOLOGIES FAM.”
