The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released a statement following the tragic death of one of their senior officials, Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, in Kilifi.
The statement, signed by CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, condemned Aisha’s murder and called on security agencies to swiftly investigate the crime and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The IEBC community is deeply saddened by her loss and extends heartfelt condolences to Aisha’s family, friends, and colleagues,” the statement read. The commission also pledged to support Aisha’s family during their grieving process.
The statement further expressed the IEBC’s concern over the horrific incident, condemning those responsible for Aisha’s death and urging law enforcement to act quickly to apprehend her killers.

Although the motives behind the attack remain uncertain, Aisha’s family believes it was not a random robbery, suspecting that she was specifically targeted. One piece of evidence supporting this theory is the fact that the assailants stole IEBC-related documents.
Aisha’s brother, Ruadh Said, shared details of the attack, stating, “This death has shocked us. We visited the scene and found that they scaled two walls to enter the house. They cut through the dining grill, stormed in, and carried out the brutal attack.” He added, “They didn’t steal much—just a TV. They ripped open an IEBC bag, stole the documents inside, and left the bag on the floor.”
Aisha had been with the IEBC since 2012, starting as a Constituency Elections Coordinator for Nyali before advancing to the role of County Elections Manager. The IEBC praised her as a “well-trained officer who carried out her duties with integrity, honesty, and dedication.”
