The family of 48-year-old Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, a senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official who was tragically murdered at her home, has spoken out, shedding light on the events leading up to her death.
During a press briefing on Sunday, January 5, her brother, Ruadh Said, disclosed that although the robbers did not take many valuables, they stole important documents belonging to the IEBC.
Ruadh explained that the assailants scaled two security walls, bypassed the main gate, and overpowered the security guard before gaining access to the house. In addition to the documents, the robbers made away with a TV set.
“This incident has left us devastated. Upon visiting the scene, we discovered the robbers had jumped over two walls, cut through the dining grill, and forcefully entered the house to commit this terrible crime,” Ruadh recounted.
“They didn’t take much—just a TV—and ripped an IEBC bag, taking the documents inside before leaving the bag behind,” he added.

Aisha’s son, Abubakar Hassan, believes the attackers’ primary motive was to end his mother’s life.
“Whatever has happened has already happened. My mom was attacked in her home in Utange, and it seems their sole intention was to kill her—and they succeeded,” he said emotionally.
The grieving family remains puzzled about the motive behind the murder and the theft of the documents. They are now urging the government to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“We appeal to the government to track down these criminals and ensure they are prosecuted to prevent such senseless killings,” Aisha’s brother pleaded.
According to a police report, the attack occurred at 3 a.m. on Sunday, January 5. The intruders assaulted Aisha and her 18-year-old son using a knife, inflicting fatal wounds on her head, just above the right eye, and injuring her son as well.
The family reported that her son is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and is recovering. Aisha was laid to rest later that same day.
