Event Coordinator Provides Detailed Explanation of Ezekiel Otuoma’s 3.5 Million Burial Fund

Denis Mugendi, the former manager of the late Kenyan footballer Ezekiel Otuoma, has provided insights into the KSh 3.5 million budget set aside for Otuoma’s burial.

During an interview on Jalang’o TV, Mugendi—who is also a member of the burial committee—emphasized that the budget was designed to honor the family’s desire to give Otuoma a dignified send-off.

“The budget incorporates the family’s preferences, including costs for airlifting Otuoma’s body, catering, and dome tents. Every expense has been considered,” Mugendi explained.

Currently, Otuoma’s remains are at Montezuma Funeral Home, and the budget covers storage, transportation, and related costs.

Mugendi highlighted that his role primarily involves contributing financially and encouraging others to support the effort.

“My contribution may be as little as KSh 100 or KSh 200, but I also motivate others to give what they can. The family’s goal is to ensure Otuoma receives a proper farewell, and we’re trusting contributions and prayers to meet the target,” he added.

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The budget announcement has sparked mixed reactions online. While some supported the family’s decision, others questioned the high costs.

Here are a few public comments:

  • @catengambisbereanadventure2628: It’s disheartening how insensitive some people can be. This moment calls for spiritual reflection. Let’s pray for Rachel’s strength as she copes with this loss.
  • @philolak5992: Omosh has spoken wisely as a genuine friend. Most critics never knew Otuoma personally and didn’t support him during his illness. People should mind their own business. Rest in peace, Pukulu.
  • @lucykiranga501: Those who didn’t help Otuoma when he needed it should keep quiet now!
  • @felistasgitau-nb4zg: I’m shocked by the behavior of TikTok users. Why are people so focused on the family’s financial plans? Even if there’s leftover money, it’s none of their business. Let’s grow up!
  • @catengambisbereanadventure2628: Be careful not to mistreat the widow. God will cover Rachel with His mercy. Let’s continue to pray for her. 🙏🏽
  • @hellenwanyaga: This man speaks wisely.
  • @Kariminjagi07: I was part of the live session. A lady said ‘no social media issues,’ and that’s when Collo left. Just to clarify, someone predicted his death earlier—totally inappropriate. Anyway, hugs to Rachel.

Emotional Reunion of Families

As burial arrangements progress, Otuoma’s death has unexpectedly brought his widow, Racheal, closer to her in-laws.

A video shared on Obinna TV captured Racheal and her mother visiting Otuoma’s family in Mbotela. The emotional gathering marked a step toward reconciliation after years of strained relations.

Amid tears and heartfelt conversations, the families began discussing burial plans. Despite the grief, Racheal was seen sharing light-hearted moments with Otuoma’s sister, whose resemblance to him was striking.

Racheal’s rocky relationship with her in-laws came under scrutiny following the footballer’s death. Before he passed, Racheal often accused them of neglecting him during his illness.

In April 2024, she took to TikTok to voice her frustrations, explaining that she had cared for her husband without receiving acknowledgment or support from his family.
