Eric Latiff Bids Farewell to Standard Group After Years of Service

On Monday, January 6, Spice FM’s The Situation Room host, Eric Latiff, announced his exit from Standard Group through an emotional farewell message.

Latiff reflected on his journey at the station, which began on August 20, 2019, alongside co-hosts CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne.

“As I say kwaheri (goodbye) to the amazing team at Spice FM and Standard Group, my heart feels heavy,” Latiff shared. “I’m thankful for the chance to be part of Kenya’s oldest private media company and proud of the talented teams I leave behind across radio, TV, and print.”

Latiff acknowledged initial doubts about how listeners would receive the unconventional morning show, which airs weekdays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

He recalled being a key figure in launching the station and hosting its first-ever program.

“At exactly 6:00 AM on August 20, 2019, four of us stepped into a brand-new studio to embark on an untested journey,” he reminisced. “While launching another station excited me, I also felt nervous—would this format work? Would listeners embrace four hours of uninterrupted talk during their busy morning routines?”

Despite those uncertainties, Latiff credited the success of The Situation Room to his co-hosts and the support of producer Brian Evusa, Programme Controller Brian, and Radio General Manager Tom Japanni.

“It’s been a rewarding experience building The Situation Room into what it is today,” he said. “We owe its success to our producers, marketing, commercial, and technical teams, as well as our loyal listeners.”

He added that the show has become a hub for Kenya’s most impactful conversations, hosting thought leaders, professionals, and community influencers.

Beyond his contributions at Spice FM, Latiff highlighted his involvement in other groundbreaking media projects. These include launching Kenya’s first vernacular radio station, Kameme FM; the first 24-hour news channel, K24; and the country’s first 24-hour religious network, Family TV and Family Radio.

Looking ahead, Latiff, who also anchored news at KTN, expressed optimism about exploring new ventures.

“Is there room for something new? Absolutely, and I’m excited to be part of it soon. Wish me luck—I’ll keep you updated,” he concluded.
