A day after Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi faced heckling while attempting to deliver President William Ruto’s speech at the burial of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti’s son, Senior Presidential Economic Council advisor Moses Kuria has criticized the incident.
In a statement released on Saturday, January 3, Kuria condemned the actions of the crowd, calling their refusal to let CS Muturi deliver the president’s message ‘ungodly.’
The disruption occurred during the burial, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and several allied legislators.
Kuria argued that rejecting condolence messages, even from perceived adversaries, contradicts the cultural values of the Mt Kenya region.

“In our culture, we never reject condolences, even from our worst enemies. Such messages are publicly shared to comfort the bereaved family. That’s why prayers are held publicly, including prayers for the family. Otherwise, clergy would simply pray with the family in private,” Kuria remarked.
Furthermore, Kuria urged former Senator Lenny Kivuti to publicly distance himself from the heckling incident.
“I expect Senator Lenny Kivuti to disassociate himself from this ungodly act. You don’t have to support the president, but he has the right to send condolences to the grieving family,” he added.
Kuria’s comments followed Friday’s incident where CS Muturi faced jeers while reading President Ruto’s condolence message.
The event unfolded amid rising political tensions in Embu County following the reported abduction of activist Billy Mwangi.
