Gachagua Dismisses Ichung’wah’s Claims of Abduction Links
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has refuted allegations by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, accusing him of sponsoring abductions of Kenyan citizens.
Speaking at the funeral service of Eric Mutugi, son of former Embu Speaker Lenny Kivuti, on Friday, January 3, Gachagua criticized the accusations, describing them as tactics to divert attention from critical issues.
He argued that the government is struggling to handle his outspoken nature and commitment to truth.
“The problem in Kenya is the prevalence of lies, and perhaps that is why I was sidelined in government—because I stood for the truth,” Gachagua remarked.
He called on the government to provide clear explanations about the recent abductions and the whereabouts of the missing youths, dismissing the claims against him as baseless.
“The president has repeatedly denied the existence of abductions. Yet, now his political allies are spreading falsehoods, claiming I am responsible for them,” he added.
Gachagua also urged authorities to stop underestimating Kenyans’ intelligence and instead release the missing youths.

“Kenyans are smart, and your lies are catching up with you. Those abducted youths—where are they? You cannot continue to deceive the public,” he emphasized.
During the event, Gachagua criticized Members of Parliament present, accusing them of being manipulated to sow division in their constituencies.
“You MPs here, how naïve can you be? Someone came with a Bible, lied to us, and now has you fighting your own brother. You’ll soon face the voters’ judgment,” he warned.
The remarks were a direct response to Ichung’wah’s earlier accusations at the burial of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother in Bungoma County.
“Gachagua orchestrated abductions to frame President Ruto. Shame on you, Governor Natembeya—you cannot decry abductions when you were the chief abductor under the previous regime,” Ichung’wah alleged.
