Kenyan businessman Jimal Rohosafi has urged men to take responsibility for their partners’ financial needs rather than depending on them for support.
Jimal’s comments came after a viral interview featuring TikToker Alma Mutheu, who expressed frustration with her boyfriend, Gift Muziq, for failing to provide financially. Jimal highlighted how many Kenyan women endure relationships with financially dependent men to maintain appearances.
Jimal’s Take
“Men being supported by women isn’t new in the city. I stand with Alma. A man should handle bills, not split them. I know many female celebrities in Kenya who bankroll their men for the sake of image, but deep down, they’re unhappy,” Jimal said.
Alma Opens Up About Her Relationship
Speaking with Oga Obinna, Alma revealed her disappointment at being the primary financial provider in her relationship with Gift.
“I met Gift while I was still an influencer, and love won. Many people advised me to leave him, but I loved him. He’s my man, so I gave him a chance. But now, he’s still ‘looking’ [for opportunities],” Alma said.
When asked if she still loved Gift, Alma clarified:
“I was in love. I haven’t stopped loving him, so don’t get me wrong. He supports me by helping shoot my content for free. I even offered to pay him, but he refused. In the second year of dating, financial arguments became frequent.”
Financial Strain in the Relationship
Alma disclosed that they agreed to share household expenses, but the arrangement eventually took a toll on her.
“He buys food sometimes. He moved into my place, and we agreed to split costs because I can’t pay for everything alone. But as a woman, you get tired of doing it all. It’s not easy.
You can’t stay with someone for two years and still carry the financial burden as the woman. I want to be taken care of.”
Gift’s Perspective
Defending himself, Gift acknowledged Alma’s role in his life and her unwavering support.
“People will talk, but no one knows where Alma and I have come from. I appreciate her pushing me—it’s not something I take negatively,” he said.
Oga Obinna’s Advice
Oga Obinna called on Kenyans to refrain from judging Alma harshly for opening up about her relationship struggles.
“Don’t be hard on Alma. She’s sharing her truth about her man. They’ve been together for two years, so she knows what she’s saying. She hasn’t had the chance to express this before, but now she has. Appreciate her honesty and aim to do better,” Obinna concluded.
