DCI Thwarts Kidnapping of Indian-Kenyan in Kasarani

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a suspect involved in the abduction of an Indian national in Kasarani, Nairobi.

According to the DCI, the incident unfolded on Tuesday, December 17, when a 28-year-old suspect, alongside two accomplices, orchestrated the kidnapping using a woman to lure the victim to their residence.

Once inside the house, the woman signaled the suspect, who then entered and confronted the victim, accusing him of trespassing. The confrontation escalated, and the suspects forced the victim to provide his family’s contact details, demanding a ransom for his release.

Fearing for their loved one’s safety, the victim’s family quickly raised Ksh310,000 as an initial payment and alerted the police at Parklands Police Station.

The Head of Operations at DCI promptly deployed a team of crime researchers who tracked the suspects to their hideout in the Mirema area of Kasarani. In a swift operation, the detectives apprehended the primary suspect, although two accomplices managed to escape and remain at large.

During the operation, officers searched the house where the victim had been held and recovered a mobile phone used to contact the victim’s family, preserving it as evidence.

“The victim is relieved to be reunited with his family. Meanwhile, the suspect will be arraigned in court tomorrow as the hunt for the other two suspects continues,” DCI officers reported.

The detectives further remarked, “Not so for the 28-year-old suspect who is now in police custody, far from the ransom money that eluded him.”

This incident follows another recent case where DCI officers arrested a man in Nairobi who staged his own kidnapping after losing his salary to betting. Investigations revealed the 25-year-old inflicted self-injuries to extort Ksh100,000 from his relatives.
