FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his support for the newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president, Hussein Mohammed, in his efforts to transform Kenyan football. The two met on Monday during the 2024 CAF Awards in Marrakech, Morocco, just two weeks after Mohammed’s victory in the FKF national elections at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
“It was a pleasure to meet the newly elected FKF President Hussein Mohammed in Marrakech. I congratulated him on his recent election and assured him of FIFA’s full support as he takes on the challenge of developing Kenyan football. His passion for the game and experience in football administration will help unite the sport,” said Infantino.
He also highlighted plans for a new technical center in Machakos and strong FKF involvement in FIFA programs, particularly in women’s football, emphasizing the clear desire to advance both on and off the pitch in this football-loving nation.
Mohammed shared that his conversation with Infantino focused on women’s football and infrastructure, key elements in advancing Kenyan football.
“We discussed governance, infrastructure, and the growth of Kenyan football, especially women’s football. FIFA and FKF are planning a technical center in Kenya, which is a vital step in strengthening the game,” said Mohammed.
Mohammed was elected FKF president on December 7, securing 67 votes in a rerun after the first round, where he received 42 votes. His closest contender, former Vice President Doris Petra, received 31 votes, while former CEO Barry Otieno got 10, prompting the second round.
