Chelsea announced on Tuesday that the Football Association (FA) had informed them of an “adverse finding” in a urine sample provided by Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Premier League club emphasized that the 23-year-old had “never knowingly” taken any banned substances, while Mudryk himself expressed shock at the news.
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that the Football Association recently contacted our player, Mykhailo Mudryk, regarding an adverse finding in a routine urine test,” the club’s statement read.
“Both the club and Mykhailo fully support the FA’s testing program, and all our players, including Mykhailo, are tested regularly.
“Mykhailo has categorically confirmed that he has never knowingly used banned substances. Both the club and Mykhailo will now work with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of this adverse finding.”
Mudryk also addressed the situation on his Instagram account.
“I can confirm that I have been notified a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance,” he wrote.
“This has come as a complete shock because I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.
“I know I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful to return to the pitch soon. I cannot comment further due to the confidentiality of the process but will share more when possible.”
