Nzioka Waita Appointed Africa Managing Director at Tony Blair Institute for Global Change
Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has been named the Africa Managing Director at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI).
The non-profit organization, founded by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, highlighted Waita’s expertise, stating, “Nzioka arrives with skills and capabilities that embody the best of TBI’s value proposition as advisors to political leaders on strategy, policy, and delivery – all enabled by technology.”
Waita, who served under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, expressed his excitement about the role in a social media post: “I will be privileged to work alongside kindred spirits, a team of like-minded thinkers, doers, and trusted advisors who are committed to supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their mandates effectively, whilst leveraging the benefits of technology and the efficient design of their governments for impact and results.”
Before this appointment, Waita worked with TBI as an independent advisor. He previously held the State House Chief of Staff position, following his role in establishing former President Kenyatta’s delivery unit. In 2022, he ran for the Machakos gubernatorial seat but lost to Wavinya Ndeti.
Prior to his involvement in Kenyan politics, Waita spent 14 years at Safaricom, where he served as the head of corporate affairs for four years. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sheffield and a Master’s in IT and Telecommunications Law from Queen Mary University of London.
TBI, through its mission, partners with governments and leaders to transform bold ideas into actionable results by providing advice on strategy, policy, and delivery, while unlocking the potential of technology in governance.
