Calvince Ochieng, popularly known as “The Seconder,” has risen from a humble bodaboda rider in Nairobi to an inspiring figure celebrated for his resilience and determination. On December 14, 2024, Ochieng graduated with a Diploma in Security Science and Management during Kenyatta University’s 52nd graduation ceremony.
Ochieng first gained public attention on July 4, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya, when he accompanied then-presidential candidate William Ruto for clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). As a staunch supporter of Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Ochieng made history as the motorcycle rider who seconded Ruto’s presidential candidacy.
Speaking about Ochieng at the time, President Ruto described him as “a great friend who runs his small hustle around Kilimani and consistently supports the UDA office whenever we need someone to transport something.”
Following his bold endorsement of Ruto, Ochieng became affectionately known as “The Seconder.” UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar praised his journey, highlighting his dedication to both his job at Hustler Plaza and his academic pursuits. “His story is a testament to resilience, hard work, and the unyielding pursuit of success,” Omar said during a celebration held in his honor.
The UDA party played a pivotal role in supporting Ochieng’s education, and Omar further encouraged him to register for a degree program, promising continued support from the party. “UDA is committed to fostering the growth and development of its members through education,” he emphasized.
Currently employed at the UDA headquarters, Ochieng’s story is a powerful example of how determination and support can transform lives.
