Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his pride in working with Cole Palmer, describing him as “different” from other top Premier League forwards. Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout player, contributing 11 goals and six assists in just 15 matches, helping propel the team to second place in the league.
The England international’s confidence was evident again with his cheeky chipped penalty in last weekend’s victory over Tottenham, a moment that Maresca believes highlights Palmer’s unique talent.
“I feel very proud and privileged to work with Cole. He’s different from the rest,” Maresca said.
As Chelsea prepares to face Brentford on Sunday, they aim to keep up the pressure on Liverpool in the title race. Currently four points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand, Chelsea is also targeting a Champions League spot.
Maresca, who previously worked with Palmer at Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, praised Palmer’s ability to handle the pressure of being Chelsea’s key player. He noted that many top players, like Palmer, appear to be unconcerned by expectations, but this attitude actually gives them more freedom.
“Cole has always been this way, even five years ago, and he still is,” Maresca said.
When asked if Palmer is currently the best player in England, Maresca acknowledged Palmer’s potential but also highlighted the abundance of talent in the Premier League. He believes Palmer can achieve world-class status, though there is still room for improvement, particularly as defenders often mark him closely.
