Police Stations to Offer Huduma Center Services under New Plan

The government announced on Friday, December 13, a new initiative to extend Huduma Center services to police stations.

Speaking at the launch of the National Police Service and State Department of Correctional Services Strategic Plan (2023-2027) at State House, Huduma Kenya CEO Benjamin Chilumo shared that a curriculum has been developed in collaboration with the Kenya School of Government to train police officers on delivering Huduma services. This move aims to enhance access to essential services.

“We are planning to train police officers so they can replicate Huduma services in police stations across Kenya,” Chilumo stated.

He highlighted that the initiative stems from the recognition of the significant value these services bring to Kenyans and stakeholders in public service delivery.

“This initiative is based on Kenyans’ appreciation of Huduma Centers and the success we’ve achieved in delivering services across the country. We collaborated with the Kenya School of Government to create a training curriculum to ensure police stations provide services of the same quality as Huduma Centers,” Chilumo added.

Under this plan, Kenyans will soon be able to visit their nearest police stations to access Huduma services, reducing the need to travel long distances or wait in long queues at Huduma offices.

Currently, Huduma Centers offer a wide range of services, including:

  • Identification and childhood services: Birth and death certificates, national identity cards, passports, and HELB student loan applications.
  • Legal, crime, and oversight services: Police clearance certificates, graft reporting to the EACC, public service complaints, and voter registration.
  • Education services: University and college placement, career guidance, and adult education registration.
  • Agriculture, lands, and transport services: Title and lease registration, seed certification, smart driving licenses, and Boda Boda registration.

Additional services include business, health, finance, welfare, and utilities support.

While Chilumo did not specify when the initiative will officially begin, the project is expected to roll out in the near future, marking a significant step in decentralizing essential services and making them more accessible to the public.
