Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged governors and all devolution stakeholders to collaborate for more efficient service delivery.
Speaking after chairing the first Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) at his Karen residence, the Deputy President emphasized that collaboration will reduce bureaucratic hurdles in providing services to Kenyans.
“Guided by the principles of collaboration and coordination, we must eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy to ensure efficient service delivery to the citizens of Kenya,” Kindiki stated.
His remarks come ahead of a planned national and county governments summit set for next week. Kindiki chaired a pre-summit meeting on Friday at his official residence, where he confirmed that key policy issues for the summit had already been agreed upon.
“We have established the high-level policy agenda that will be presented at the summit on Monday,” Kindiki added. The summit will be chaired by President William Ruto.
On the same day, the Deputy President also chaired the 25th Ordinary Session of IBEC, where sweeping reforms to strengthen devolution were discussed. These measures include expediting the transfer of assets, streamlining revenue systems, and resolving financial bottlenecks to improve service delivery and enhance intergovernmental collaboration between counties and the national government.
The council agreed that all institutions prioritize the implementation of these resolutions, with a monitoring system put in place to ensure effective tracking and reporting.
“Both levels of government must promote effective coordination, cooperation, and consultation to safeguard devolution and service delivery, based on mutual respect for each institution’s mandate and in the pursuit of the greater public interest,” Kindiki concluded.
These remarks were made as he briefed the media on the resolutions following his first IBEC meeting.
