Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta no longer represents the influential Mt Kenya region. According to Havi, Uhuru only holds one vote and has lost his connection to the region’s voters.
Havi also noted that even with President William Ruto’s involvement, it remains challenging for the two leaders to regain control of the region, as both have lost significant support there. “There is nothing former President Uhuru Kenyatta and President William Ruto can do to recover the Mountain. The Mountain has moved,” Havi declared during an interview on Citizen TV.
He further expressed skepticism about the potential coalition between Ruto and Uhuru, following their meeting in Ichaweri, Gatundu. Havi questioned the motivations behind the discussions, urging that Kenyans be informed about any plans or coalitions. “There is talk of a further coalition government above the one between Ruto and Raila Odinga, but to what end?” Havi asked. “These three leaders have tried this before, and Kenyans need to be aware of any hidden agendas or reorganizations.”
Havi’s comments came after the meeting between Ruto and Uhuru, which raised speculation about a possible coalition government. The two leaders discussed national matters, including Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission chairmanship. This unexpected private meeting has sparked speculation about a potential political partnership.
President Ruto later stated that his outreach to Uhuru and Raila aims to unite the country, adding that he plans to continue engaging with other leaders to foster national unity.
