Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has explained his absence from the stage at the Furaha City Festival in Kenya, a situation that disappointed fans and sparked controversy.
In a video statement, Diamond revealed that although he was ready to perform, unforeseen circumstances forced him to step back. He mentioned spending hours in his car, waiting for his performance slot, which kept getting delayed. “There was chaos near the stage, and I moved to a different area, but the commotion followed me,” he shared.
Diamond explained that his manager had repeatedly contacted event organizers for clarification on when he would perform, but the responses were inconsistent. Due to security concerns, his team advised against going on stage. “I respect my craft and won’t perform if the agreed conditions aren’t met,” Diamond stated.
Addressing rumors that he intentionally blocked fellow artist Willy Paul from performing before him, Diamond dismissed them as false. “I was the headliner, and other artists were supposed to perform before me. Why would I care about who goes before me? These stories are just to create unnecessary drama,” he explained.
Diamond also revealed that he was paid KSh19.4 million for the show and would not be refunding the money, citing the organizers’ breach of contract. “The agreement was for me to perform on the 7th, not the 8th. I won’t refund because they didn’t honor the terms,” he said.
A few days earlier, Willis Raburu, one of the Furaha City organizers, had issued a statement regarding Diamond’s absence. He expressed regret over Diamond’s failure to perform as planned, noting that while the event was well-organized, challenges with Diamond’s team and demands were too difficult to resolve.
Raburu dismissed claims of disorganization, stating that a minor security issue involving another artist had been quickly handled. He praised the Kenyan performers for their energy and professionalism, noting their role in making the event memorable. Raburu also thanked Wasafi artists Zuchu and Rayvanny for their outstanding performances.
Acknowledging Diamond’s international stature, Raburu emphasized the importance of mutual professionalism and respect in such collaborations. He assured fans that lessons learned from the experience would improve future editions of the festival.
Raburu concluded by thanking fans, partners, and performers for their support, making the Furaha City Festival a celebration of culture, music, and unity.
