On Monday, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi met with Western Region Regional Commissioner Samson Macharia and his team in Kakamega Town to discuss matters related to security and digital transformation in the region.
Mudavadi emphasized the critical importance of security as the foundation of a nation’s sovereignty, peace, and stability. “Security is the very bedrock of a sovereign nation, ensuring peace and stability for the protection of its people and their values,” Mudavadi remarked. During the meeting, he evaluated the current security situation in the region and reviewed ongoing efforts to safeguard the public.
The briefing provided an in-depth look at the region’s security landscape, including an overview of crime hotspots and the challenges faced. Discussions also covered proactive steps being taken to ensure a peaceful Jamhuri Day and festive season.
Mudavadi was informed that within the past month, the security team had successfully recovered 150 stolen cows from the counties of Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga.
On the digital transformation front, Mudavadi expressed his approval of the efforts to connect schools and a hospital to fibre and Wi-Fi, noting the positive impact this will have on empowering young people with digital skills training and access to online opportunities. “Such initiatives reflect the region’s forward-thinking approach to digital transformation,” he said.
Also present during the visit were Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, as well as Principal Secretaries John Tanui (ICT), Edward Kisiangani (Broadcasting and Telecommunications), Madam Beatrice Inyangala (Higher Education), and Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Manager at Huawei Kenya.
