Hussein: I appreciate the FKF electoral board for their professionalism.

Hussein Mohammed, the newly elected president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), has expressed his appreciation to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their oversight of the recent FKF elections.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Mohammed praised the international and continental football governing bodies for ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

“A heartfelt thank you to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football delegations for overseeing this crucial election. Our gratitude also goes to the FKF Electoral Board for managing this high-stakes process with professionalism and fairness. Despite the emotions and expectations, you delivered excellently,” Mohammed said.

He also acknowledged the high expectations for Kenyan football and stressed the urgency of taking immediate action.

“Asanteni sana. It’s now time to roll up our sleeves and get to work, bringing the transformation that Kenyan football has been waiting for,” he added.

Hussein Mohammed was elected FKF president on December 7 in a highly competitive poll at Moi Stadium, Kasarani. He garnered 42 votes out of 90, alongside former Kenya international McDonald Mariga, who was elected as vice president.

Dorris Petra, with her running mate Nick Mwendwa, came in second with 31 votes. Former FKF CEO Barry Otieno secured 10 votes, placing third, while Cleophas Shimanyula finished fourth with 4 votes.

The elections were initially heading for a runoff between the top three candidates. However, Petra and Otieno withdrew from the race after none of the candidates achieved the 50% threshold in the first round.

The 90 delegates also voted for various positions, including the presidency, deputy president, and National Executive Committee (NEC) members.

AFC Leopards chairman, Shikanda, was elected as the new Nairobi NEC member, replacing Michael Ouma Majua. Shikanda triumphed with 25 votes, edging out Ouma, who received 23 votes, followed by Isaac Macharia (22), James Masese (16), and Simon Mugo (2). Daniel Magara and Athanas Obango each received one vote.
