Diamond Platnumz responded to Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi after his comments about the Furaha City Festival incident. Eric, along with other notable figures, had voiced concerns over the alleged mistreatment of Willy Paul and the failure of Diamond to perform at the highly anticipated event on December 7th in Nairobi.
Eric criticized the preferential treatment given to some artists over Kenyan musicians, stating that Kenyan artists are often sidelined, lacking VIP treatment and proper backstage amenities. He highlighted the disparity where international artists receive luxurious treatment, while Kenyan performers struggle to get basic access. Eric also shared his frustration over the ongoing struggles for Kenyan artists to receive equal pay and respect, emphasizing that change is coming.
In response, Diamond stated that success comes not from hating others but through hard work and dedication. He reminded Eric that he had received warm receptions in Tanzania and that local comedians never expressed feelings of oppression or demanded preferential treatment. Diamond encouraged Eric to foster love and cooperation among artists instead of promoting division, stressing that unity is key to success.
The festival organizers later released a statement blaming Diamond’s team for unprofessional behavior and making excessive demands.
