The International Criminal Court (ICC) has announced that it will initiate an external investigation into its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. This decision, confirmed in a statement on Monday, aims to ensure an independent, impartial, and fair process. The court has called for full cooperation from all involved parties.
Khan, who continues to oversee investigations into alleged war crimes, including the Israel-Gaza conflict, stated that any matters related to the investigation would be handled by deputy prosecutors. He has previously denied the misconduct allegations that were reported to the court’s governing body last month, at which point he requested an internal review.

The ICC is also reviewing Khan’s request for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, his defense chief, and Hamas leaders, with Khan suggesting the misconduct allegations were part of a misinformation campaign against his office.
The ICC is a permanent international court that prosecutes individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression, within member states or by their nationals.
