The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed allegations that detectives in unmarked vehicles attempted to block Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi on Sunday. In a statement released Tuesday morning, the DCI refuted the claims, labeling them as unfounded and misrepresenting the agency’s actions and intentions.
The DCI emphasized its strict adherence to the rule of law and its commitment to respecting individuals’ personal freedoms and religious practices. The agency reiterated its responsibility to protect the rights of citizens and institutions, highlighting its respect for the independence of religious organizations.
The DCI attributed the misinformation to a local media outlet and urged the publication to maintain fairness and accuracy in its reporting, particularly when covering high-profile figures and national institutions.
During the Sunday service at Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West, Deputy President Gachagua addressed the congregation in Kikuyu, urging calm and stressing the importance of voter registration, which he referred to as “our shield,” likely alluding to the upcoming 2027 elections.
