Moses Kuria, President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor, has hinted at the creation of a new political vehicle for the 2027 elections.
Kuria expressed confidence in his political calculations, suggesting that the country should brace for a new political force as it approaches the 2027 General Election.
The former Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Public Service made this remark as President Ruto deepens his collaboration with Raila Odinga’s ODM party. With Raila eyeing the African Union Commission chairperson position, there are growing indications that he may back Ruto’s reelection campaign in 2027.
Kuria’s comments on Sunday stirred the political scene as he revealed plans for a new political movement supporting Ruto’s 2027 reelection bid. He compared the upcoming movement to the 2002 “rainbow” coalition, which united various political factions.
“I foresee a new nationalist movement emerging in 2027, similar to the 2002 rainbow movement. Those with vision should join, or they will regret being on the sidelines,” Kuria said. “I am a student of mathematics, and in politics, I don’t make mistakes.”
Kuria spoke during a thanksgiving service in Homa Bay County for Governor Gladys Wanga, who was celebrating her appointment as ODM national chairperson. Raila Odinga also attended, alongside figures from both ODM and Ruto’s UDA party, highlighting the political intrigues as alliances shift in preparation for the 2027 elections.
This announcement of a new political machine for Ruto’s reelection comes amid significant political realignment, following the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua, who is working on a political comeback, is reportedly considering an alliance with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
As the political landscape shifts, major figures are consolidating their forces in anticipation of the 2027 polls. While the possibility of a merger between UDA and ODM remains uncertain, both parties may form a broad-based alliance similar to the 2002 Narc coalition that ended President Moi’s long reign.
Additionally, UDA is urging Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties, including Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC, to merge, with Mudavadi’s party already resolved to fold into the alliance.
