Moi University lecturers and staff vow to continue strike with no end in sight.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University chapter held a virtual meeting on Sunday night and resolved to continue their strike, leaving the university closed.

Chapter Secretary General Busolo Wekesa confirmed that the meeting concluded with a decision to persist with the local strike. Rallies are planned to be held concurrently at the Main Campus and PDN in Eldoret.

The strike stems from the university’s failure to implement the Remuneration and Terms of Work Framework (RTWF) outlined in the 2021/2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Union members have been instructed to await further guidance from UASU leaders and to reach out for urgent concerns.

Last Friday, the parliamentary education committee urged university management and the unions to negotiate and resume work in time for students’ scheduled return.

Despite the ongoing strike, Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey issued a memo on Thursday announcing the university’s reopening and directed students to resume classes on Monday, November 11, 2024.
