On Monday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a notorious cross-border car thief who had been stealing vehicles while evading capture. The suspect was caught driving a stolen Toyota Dyna Mini Truck, but fled on foot when officers attempted to stop him, leaving the vehicle behind.
DCI later revealed that the truck’s owner, a 32-year-old man, had been drugged and left unconscious at Kalii Guest House during the robbery. The suspect, believed to be the leader of a car theft syndicate, was arrested after a brief chase and is awaiting arraignment at Loitoktok Police Station.
This gang is known for stealing cars, smuggling them across the border, and selling them cheaply. Similar crimes have been reported in Loitoktok, including a case in July 2023 where a woman lured victims by posing as a pillion passenger, drugging them, and then assisting in the theft.
In a separate investigation, the DCI recovered stolen phones and drugs during a raid on a suspect’s house, uncovering connections to past crimes in multiple counties.
