Barcelona has announced that star forwards Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal will be sidelined due to injuries, ruling them out of the upcoming international break. Lewandowski, who picked up a back injury during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad, will miss around 10 days of action. The injury occurred in a match where Lewandowski had a goal controversially disallowed. Barcelona confirmed in a statement that Lewandowski is struggling with pain in the lumbar region of his back and will be given time to recover, ensuring he misses Poland’s upcoming Nations League games against Portugal and Scotland. However, he is expected to return for Barcelona’s next league match against Celta Vigo on November 23.
On the other hand, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who was absent from Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad due to a right ankle injury, will be out for a period of two to three weeks. The injury means Yamal will miss Spain’s international matches this week against Denmark and Switzerland, as well as Barcelona’s upcoming trip to Vigo. Moreover, he is uncertain for the club’s home Champions League game against Brest on November 26, as well as their La Liga fixture with Las Palmas.
Yamal has been a standout performer for Barcelona this season, having scored six goals in his first 15 appearances. Lewandowski, on the other hand, has been in excellent form, currently leading La Liga as the top scorer with 17 goals across all competitions. Despite these setbacks, Barcelona remains in a strong position, sitting sixth in the Champions League with nine points and six points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga, though they have played one more match than their title rivals.
