One person is feared to be trapped after a building under construction collapsed in the Majengo area of Mombasa County on the morning of Monday, November 11. The storey building, which had only reached the first floor, crumbled on one side.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident, stating that two people were rescued, while one remained trapped under the debris. At the time of reporting, no fatalities had been confirmed.
A multi-agency team, including the Kenya Police, Mombasa County Government, and the Kenya Red Cross, is currently engaged in search and rescue operations.
Images from the scene show construction workers gathered around the rubble, likely trying to help rescue their colleague.
This incident follows a similar one in Nairobi County just three weeks ago, where an eight-story illegal structure collapsed. Fortunately, no injuries occurred as the building was already slated for demolition. Nairobi Deputy Governor James Muchiri later clarified that experts had warned residents about the building’s safety in the weeks prior to its collapse.
