Amorim’s action plan to boost morale at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim is set to take over as Manchester United’s manager from November 11, following a successful tenure at Sporting Lisbon. He becomes the club’s sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Despite significant investment in transfers and wages, United has struggled to compete for top honors in the Premier League and Champions League in the past decade.

This season, the team is off to its worst Premier League start, sitting 13th with only 12 points from 10 games. Even in the Europa League, United has failed to secure a win from its first three matches. Amorim faces several challenges, including establishing his playing style, reviving the club’s faltering morale, and rekindling belief among both players and fans.

Under Erik ten Hag, United’s results were inconsistent, with the team relying on individual brilliance rather than a cohesive style of play. Amorim, however, has built a reputation for energetic and attacking football, guiding Sporting Lisbon to two league titles in four years. His preferred 3-4-3 formation may be a good fit for United’s current squad, but he will have little time to implement his tactics, with a demanding run of 12 games between November and January.

United’s recent managerial history has been turbulent, with multiple high-profile managers unable to turn the club’s fortunes around. Despite heavy spending on transfers, many signings have not lived up to expectations, and the club has become a “graveyard” for big-money players, according to former captain Gary Neville.

Amorim will have a stronger squad than at Sporting, but his success will hinge on maximizing the potential of the available talent. The key challenge will be restoring belief to a fanbase demoralized by years of decline, while rivals Manchester City and Liverpool have established dominance. Amorim’s ability to energize the team and the supporters will be crucial, with United captain Bruno Fernandes hopeful that Amorim can replicate his success at Sporting and inspire a similar transformation at Old Trafford.
