President William Ruto is set to depart for Juba, South Sudan, on Wednesday for an official visit focused on advancing South Sudan’s political transition through the Tumaini Peace Consensus.
The Tumaini initiative, launched in May, was proposed by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir with backing from Kenya and other development partners.
Ruto, Kiir, and former Kenyan Army Commander and Chief Mediator Major-Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo lead the peace efforts. According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the leaders will also discuss strategic regional infrastructure projects, such as the LAPSSET Corridor.
Additionally, their agenda includes matters concerning the African Union.
This visit follows Kiir’s recent trip to Nairobi on August 27 to support Kenya’s candidacy for the African Union Commission, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to regional cooperation, shared growth, and sustainable development.
Kiir also expressed support for Kenya’s candidate, Raila Odinga.
