Former Wells Fargo Human Resources Manager Willis Ayieko is set to be laid to rest on Saturday at his Ong’iende village (Bob’s Ranch) in Central Alego, Siaya County. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi before his body is transported to his home.
Ayieko’s body was discovered on October 23 at 2 p.m. in Mungowere stream, located on the border between Siaya and Kakamega counties. He had been missing for several days after attending a funeral in Gem, and his vehicle was later found abandoned at a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
An autopsy conducted at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed that Ayieko died from head injuries that caused brain bleeding. The examination also revealed wrist bruises from cuffs and missing tissues on the mouth, ear, and cheek, which Dr. Oduor explained were the result of animal predation at the site. A dead crab was found on Ayieko’s clothing, indicating that water animals such as fish and crabs had targeted the soft tissues.
The autopsy was attended by family members, Siaya Governor James Orengo, MPs Sam Atandi and Elisha Odhiambo, as well as family pathologist Prof. Emily Rogena, who agreed with Dr. Oduor’s findings. Also present was Martin Nyuguto, Director of the Homicide Unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
Meanwhile, police investigations into Ayieko’s murder are ongoing. A suspect named George Oduor was killed in a confrontation with police in Kisumu town, where a firearm was recovered. Oduor had been ambushed at a guest house near Kisumu National Polytechnic. His brother, Victor Ouma, also known as Sisco, is in custody.
On Monday, detectives arrested another suspect, Otieno Omondi, in Kisumu. Omondi, a motorcycle rider, is alleged to have provided transportation for Ouma to the location of Ayieko’s abduction. According to police, Omondi admitted to taking Ouma to the scene and receiving Sh9,000 for the job. He noted that Ouma was wearing a blue jacket at the time, and CCTV footage from multiple locations confirmed this detail.
