Police in Nkubu, Meru County, are investigating an incident where a woman accidentally struck and killed her two-and-a-half-year-old son.
According to authorities, the woman, who worked as a farm laborer, was digging while accompanied by her young child. During the task, the child slipped and fell in front of her, and she inadvertently struck him on the back of the head with a fork jembe, causing a severe laceration.
The child was rushed to a private clinic at Kionyo Market for first aid before being transferred to Consolata Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body has been taken to Kanyakine Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Ketere, Migori County, three men were injured after a mine they were working in collapsed. Police reported that the three, aged between 21 and 39, suffered multiple injuries, including trauma to the head, right leg, and right arm.
Upon receiving the report of the mine collapse, police found that the site was illegal. Six miners were initially trapped in the 600-foot-deep mine, which collapsed at around the 200-foot mark. Local miners managed to rescue all six individuals. There were no fatalities reported.
The injured men were taken to Rongo Subcounty Hospital, where one was discharged in stable condition. The other two were referred to Migori County Hospital for further treatment and remain in serious but stable condition. The remaining three men, who escaped unhurt, fled the scene.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was found deceased in his room on Biashara Street in Nairobi. Police discovered the body in a kneeling position, leaning against the bed, with no visible injuries.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. The body was documented and transported to City Mortuary, pending a postmortem examination.
