Police in Kahawa West, Kiambu County, are investigating another femicide case after a woman’s body was found in her boyfriend’s house on Friday, November 1. This incident adds to the growing number of femicide cases in Kenya.
The victim, identified as Lilian Achieng’ Aluko, a presenter at Radio 44, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, who is now missing. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate him.
Lilian, 33, was found with facial injuries and a stab wound behind her ear. She had informed her family the day before that she would be spending the night at her boyfriend’s house, which was the last time they heard from her.
Neighbors reported hearing violent altercations after the couple returned home from a local entertainment spot, but they could not intervene due to the locked door and loud music. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered at the scene, and Lilian’s family is urging the police to apprehend the suspect.
Lilian’s friends described her as lively and full of energy, while her sister expressed heartbreak over her untimely death, calling for justice. “We’ve lost a good girl at the hands of someone she probably loved,” a friend added in tribute.
This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about rising femicide rates. According to the National Police Service, 97 women have lost their lives to femicide in the past three months. In response, President William Ruto, speaking at Divine Africa Church, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling violence against women, addressing both the criminal and moral aspects of these acts.
“How can our women, who expect our love, now be dying at the hands of men?” Ruto questioned, emphasizing the need for justice and protection for women.
