Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua is pleading for his release from a rehabilitation facility where he has been receiving treatment.
In an emotional video posted online, Mbugua appealed to an unnamed authority to permit his discharge, asserting that he feels fully recovered.
“Hi everyone. I just want to ask whoever is responsible for my release to please let me go. My mom and dad came here two months ago and said it’s not up to them,” he explained, noting that he was cleared for discharge over a month ago.
“I was officially discharged on September 25, yet I’m still here. I just want to return to building my business. Please, whoever holds the authority, grant me my freedom. I did nothing wrong. I manage my condition as best as I can; sometimes I succeed, sometimes I struggle.”
Previously, on October 19, Mbugua expressed his gratitude for the prayers and support from Kenyans during his treatment. His improved appearance on TikTok reassured many, and he shared his appreciation, saying, “Thank you so much for your prayers. God is great, and I’m grateful for His healing once again. I’ve fallen apart many times, but He restores me each time. I love you all so much.”
He added, “I’m well now. I’m no longer where I was four months ago. I can only thank God for making me whole again. I’ve broken down over 15 times, but God always brings me back stronger. Thank you so much, and may God bless you.”
Mbugua has battled bipolar disorder for the past five years, facing numerous challenging episodes. Despite these hardships, he emphasized resilience: “What matters most is getting up and dusting yourself off. Even if you fall again, stand back up and keep going. As long as you’re alive to fight another day, it’s not over yet.”
