Around 10,000 citizens and government officials are expected to gather at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Friday for the swearing-in of Prof. Kithure Kindiki as Kenya’s new Deputy President. By dawn, crowds had already begun assembling outside KICC, eager to witness the historic event set to begin at 10 a.m.
The venue will host 3,000 seated guests, with an additional 7,000 standing in support of Kindiki’s assumption of office. Security around KICC has been heightened, with law enforcement deploying personnel to ensure safety for all attendees.
Kindiki’s swearing-in follows a ruling by the High Court in Nairobi on Thursday that lifted a previous order preventing his assumption of office after the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
“It is hereby notified for the general public that the swearing-in ceremony of the Deputy President-designate will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.), Nairobi City County, from 10:00 a.m.,” read a gazette notice by Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei also issued a gazette naming the members of the Assumption to Office of the Deputy President Committee, responsible for organizing Kindiki’s swearing-in.
