On Wednesday evening, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), alongside police in Siaya, recovered a pistol previously owned by the late Willis Ayieko, a Human Resource Manager at Wells Fargo. Acting on a tip-off, officers tracked two suspects—a man and a woman—spotted with a firearm in a car at Wagai Trading Centre.
The gun was reportedly stolen from Ayieko during his murder on October 23, days after he was reported missing on October 18. His body was later discovered in the Mungowere stream in Siaya County, with an autopsy by Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor revealing head injuries as the cause of death.
Upon attempting to stop the suspects’ vehicle, the male driver ignored police orders, opened fire, and sped toward Luanda, leading to a chase that ended when the car veered off-road and overturned near Adder Farm in Kagilo. The driver escaped, but his female accomplice was found unconscious and severely injured. The police recovered a pistol loaded with 11 rounds, later confirmed as Ayieko’s stolen firearm. The woman was rushed to a hospital in Yala but succumbed to her injuries hours later.
Further investigation led detectives to the male suspect’s rented home in Sagam Trading Centre, Kanyibwop village, where they seized several items, including a jungle sweater, military shorts, two pairs of desert boots, two TV sets, a laptop, and a Rolex watch. Another woman found at the residence was arrested to aid the ongoing investigation.
Detectives have also arrested two additional suspects in connection to Ayieko’s murder and are carefully examining all evidence, with forensic teams conducting detailed analyses to develop new leads.
