Two female suspects have been arrested by DCI officers in Nyanza, along with the recovery of a stolen pistol believed to have belonged to the late Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager, Willis Ayieko. Nyanza Regional DCI Coordinator Lenny Kisaka reported that officers intercepted intelligence about a planned robbery along the Luanda-Siaya road and set a trap.
Kisaka explained that a multi-agency team flagged down a private saloon car, but the two occupants failed to comply, leading to a shootout. The suspects, a man and a woman, fired shots into the air, prompting police to deflate the car’s tires, causing it to veer off the road. The male suspect then fled on foot with gunshot wounds into a nearby thicket before boarding a motorcycle. The female suspect was apprehended on the spot, and a Ceska pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition was recovered. The pistol’s serial number matched that of Ayieko’s stolen weapon, which went missing after his abduction and murder.
Speaking at the Nyanza DCI headquarters in Kisumu, Kisaka stated that police dogs were quickly deployed and successfully traced the fleeing suspect to a hideout nearby. Although the suspect managed to escape again, a second female suspect was arrested at the hideout, along with a police jungle uniform, which authorities believe the trio used to carry out robberies along the Kisumu-Busia highway.
Kisaka urged the public to report anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention by calling the DCI hotline at 08100722203. He also reassured friends and relatives of the late Ayieko that the DCI is treating the case with urgency and that all individuals involved will be brought to justice.
With the latest arrests, the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with this case now stands at three, following the initial arrest of a suspect by DCI officers in Dandora, Nairobi, on Tuesday.
