Celibacy is a conscious choice to refrain from sexual activity, often associated with spiritual development and self-control.
Comedian Mammito recently shared her life-changing experience with celibacy on Instagram, claiming she had practiced it throughout 2024. She expressed, “I have been celibate this year, and it has truly centered me. Connecting with my higher self is such a beautiful journey.” However, it was later revealed that this was a ruse, as she announced she was pregnant.
Despite this, some Kenyans have genuinely embraced celibacy and discussed their experiences. Here are a few of them:
Comedian Flaqo
After Mammito’s post gained attention, Flaqo joined the conversation in the comments, agreeing with her sentiments. He shared that he had also been on a similar journey, emphasizing that celibacy is a powerful way to unlock one’s true potential and foster personal growth. He humorously added that this path could lead to his downfall: “Best way to tap into your innermost potential. But Hii Seli basi ndio ni kama itaniua.”
Stevo Simple Boy
In an interview on the Mic Cheque Podcast, rapper Stevo revealed that he had been celibate for a year. He mentioned that he typically manages his sexual urges by taking a quick cold shower, which helps him shift his focus and maintain his celibacy, allowing him to concentrate on other areas of his life. “Well, anytime I feel the need to engage with someone, I take a cold shower, and the thought leaves my mind,” he explained.
Willy Paul
Gospel artist turned secular musician Willy Paul shared in a previous interview that he had abstained from sexual relationships for several months to fully dedicate himself to his career and his upcoming album, Beyond Gifted. “I decided to abstain for some time and focus on my career. My commitment to abstinence has positively impacted my life, as my career has also seen growth,” he stated at the time.
