Confusion has erupted in Kimumu, Uasin Gishu County, where 23 students were reportedly taking fake Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams at an unregistered school not recognized by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Police acted early Wednesday after a concerned parent tipped them off about the school’s unusual examination practices, noting that the students were consistently late and taking different tests compared to other institutions.
Deputy County Commissioner Duncan Okwatch confirmed that upon investigation, police found that the students were misled into thinking they were registered for the national exams. The headteacher and owner of the school have been accused of scamming parents by presenting fake exams as legitimate KNEC assessments.
The police reported that the school had been printing and photocopying its own exams for the students. Okwatch announced the arrest of the two suspects and stated that further investigations would determine their motives.
As for the affected students, Okwatch mentioned that the Ministry of Education and KNEC would address the situation to find a resolution for those who were misled about their exams. The KPSEA exams commenced on October 28 and are scheduled to conclude today, October 30, 2024.
