University lecturers initiate nationwide strike action.

All public universities across the country have been brought to a standstill as lecturers began a strike on Tuesday. The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) announced that the strike will continue until the government addresses their demands outlined in the 2012-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Under the leadership of Secretary General Constantine Wasonga, the lecturers urged the government to adhere to the negotiated return-to-work formula, which includes various benefits aimed at improving their welfare. They specifically held vice-chancellors accountable for their grievances, claiming that these leaders have long hindered their efforts for better compensation.

Wasonga affirmed that no lecturer will enter lecture halls to teach students during this strike.
