Activist Boniface Mwangi has declared that he will not be intimidated by the ongoing arrests he encounters. He was recently detained at Kamukunji Police Station on Sunday, with the arrest occurring in front of his children.
After being released on Monday, October 28, without any charges, Mwangi took to his X account to express his gratitude and determination, stating:
“I am at a loss for words due to the immense love and support you have shown me. I’m free. To the comrades who spent the night outside Kamukunji Police Station to protect me and ensure I wasn’t moved during the night, thank you. To my family, the legal team, and every Kenyan who stood by me, may God bless and protect you. I was arrested in front of my children without being informed of the reason.”
Mwangi also voiced his concerns about the state of democracy in Kenya, questioning the rationale behind the frequent arrests of law-abiding citizens. He claimed that the police tracked him through his phone service provider without a warrant and conducted an unlawful search of his home.
He criticized the government, stating, “Such occurrences should not happen in a democracy or a country where the President himself claims to respect the rule of law. But are we truly a democracy? What kind of democracy shoots unarmed children and arrests citizens for displaying their national flag?”
He affirmed that he will not back down, promising to continue fighting for justice, citizens’ rights, and accountability. This incident adds to the series of arrests Mwangi has faced due to his activism.
Upon his release, he received a warm welcome from his wife Njeri, their children, and long-time supporter Martha Karua, who praised his commitment to the cause.
