President William Ruto announced that the government will hire an additional 20,000 teachers next year to ensure that Kenyan children receive quality education. This recruitment will be in addition to the 46,000 vacancies currently being filled by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for junior secondary, secondary, and primary schools.
Ruto emphasized the importance of parents investing in their children’s education, stating that hiring more teachers will significantly improve the learning environment. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with higher learning institutions to expand educational opportunities.
“We must provide the best opportunities for our children, which is why we will be hiring another 20,000 teachers in January. We will also continue engaging universities and TVETs to create new programs that support the growth and development of our children,” Ruto said during the President’s Award ceremony held at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday.
The President urged parents to spend more time with their children, understanding their needs and actively participating in shaping their future, rather than simply relying on schools.
“I encourage parents to be more involved in their children’s lives. Let us not simply leave them at school; it is our duty to help shape their character and future,” he added.
Accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Sports) and Julius Ogamba (Education), among other senior officials, Ruto praised the President’s Award Board for its role in empowering Kenyan youth. He noted that the program promotes employability, creativity, and innovation, preparing young people to compete globally.
“Despite the challenges we face, Kenyan youth continue to show resilience and innovation. They are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the champions of today,” Ruto remarked.
