President William Ruto has called on the international community to bolster its support for Haiti’s recovery, stressing the importance of sustained security efforts and socio-economic transformation. Speaking at the Leader-Level Meeting of the ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, Ruto emphasized the need for global cooperation to ensure Haiti’s long-term stability.
Following his recent visit to Port-au-Prince, where he met with Haitian political leaders and Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission personnel, President Ruto expressed optimism about the mission’s early successes. He noted key milestones such as the reopening of Port-au-Prince’s airport, the resumption of flights, and the recapture of the city’s main hospital—significant steps toward reviving Haiti’s economy and restoring hope.
Ruto urged the United Nations Security Council to renew the MSS mandate, underscoring that sustained international support is crucial for continued progress. He also suggested innovative funding strategies for the mission and encouraged international partners to increase their contributions of funds, equipment, and logistics.
“To secure Haiti’s future, it is essential that we maintain our collaborative efforts,” he said, while commending the contributions of the United States, Canada, and other allied nations.
The Kenyan President also praised Haiti’s leadership for advancing the MSS mission and guiding the country toward socio-economic renewal. He reaffirmed Kenya’s steadfast support, expressing confidence that, with the right assistance, Haiti will achieve lasting peace and recovery.
