The death toll in the Migaa bus crash has risen to 13.

The death toll from a horrific car accident in the Migaa area near Salgaa has risen to 13 after five more bodies were recovered from the mangled wreckage of the bus. According to Jasper Ombati, the Regional Police Commander of Rift Valley, fifty-five other passengers sustained various injuries and are receiving treatment at several hospitals in the area.

The accident occurred at 4 a.m. on Tuesday and involved a Coast Bus traveling from Kakamega to Mombasa. The bus, which was carrying an undetermined number of passengers, reportedly developed mechanical problems in Kericho before losing its brakes and crashing into a private car at Migaa.

Among the victims, 11 were passengers on the bus, while two others were in the private car.

Rescue operations commenced on Tuesday morning, with concerns that more bodies might still be trapped in the wreckage.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that it had deployed response teams to the scene and that 36 injured individuals were being treated at Coptic and Molo Hospitals.

“Thirty-six injured individuals have been taken to Molo and Coptic Hospitals following a road traffic incident involving a PSV bus and multiple vehicles at Migaa in Molo, Nakuru County,” the Kenya Red Cross stated in an update on X.

The Kenya Red Cross, along with a multi-agency response team, continues to provide assistance at the scene.
