President William Ruto has expressed his confidence in the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, stating that she is fully deserving of the role and that he is certain she will excel in her duties.
Speaking on Tuesday at State House, Nairobi, after Oduor took the oath of office, President Ruto emphasized that her appointment was not solely based on her being a woman but on her proven competence.
The President assured that he has full faith in Oduor’s ability to perform her duties with diligence and to meet expectations.
“I am confident that you will make our country proud,” Ruto remarked. “While many have noted that you are the first woman to hold the position of Attorney General in independent Kenya, your appointment is about your competence. I am certain that, based on your capabilities and your proven ability to deliver, you truly deserve this position.”
He added, “I am confident that you will not only make us proud as a nation but also demonstrate that what has often been said—‘what a man can do, a woman can do better’—holds true. Many will be watching.”
President Ruto also urged Oduor to collaborate closely with other agencies to ensure that the legal representation of the government and the people of Kenya is timely and effective.
“It is crucial, Madam Attorney General, that you work alongside all relevant agencies to ensure that the government’s legal responsibilities and representation are timely, robust, and appropriate,” he said.
Dorcas Oduor makes history as the first woman to serve as Attorney General in Kenya. She succeeds Justin Muturi, who has been reappointed to the Ministry of Public Service in Ruto’s new Cabinet.
Oduor was confirmed for the position last week by the National Assembly after undergoing vetting by the Committee on Appointments.
