Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately. The announcement was made during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, with Governor Jonathan Bii in attendance.
In a press conference on Monday, Governor Bii confirmed that Barorot stepped down after securing a new role as Chief Executive Officer at an international ICT firm, set to begin on September 1, 2024. During his speech, Barorot clarified that his resignation was not due to any differences with the governor, as some had speculated, but rather to pursue new opportunities.
He emphasized that the move aligns with his career in the ICT sector, where he has spent the last 30 years. “It’s in the private sector but has a catalytic role. I leave with my head held high because of my passion. I have worked well with the governor and other employees,” Barorot stated.
Governor Bii commended Barorot for his dedicated service to the county and wished him success in his new role, calling it a blessing for Uasin Gishu.
Barorot’s resignation comes just a week after he dismissed rumors about his departure. Speculation had intensified when he was notably absent from President William Ruto’s event last Thursday, where Eldoret was granted city status.
The resignation occurs as the county government prepares to take on new responsibilities following Eldoret’s elevation to city status.
