Police have confiscated cannabis valued at Sh2.5 million in Malindi, but the suspect managed to flee during the operation.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Malindi are pursuing a suspected drug trafficker linked to Sh2.5 million worth of cannabis. The suspect reportedly evaded capture when police raided his store.

According to a police report, officers acted on tips from residents about the suspect’s involvement in illegal activities. “He escaped after spotting officers leaving his store unattended,” the report states.

During the raid, authorities recovered 86 kilograms of bhang hidden in four sacks. The narcotics were secured at the Malindi Police Station as evidence.

As the search for the trafficker continues, police are urging the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest. They are also asking for tips on any suspicious individuals or activities to help maintain a drug-free community.

This incident follows a recent operation in Mombasa, where police arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized bhang valued at Sh13 million. The arrests were made during a joint operation by Moi International Airport and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based on a public tip-off.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that officers found sixteen sacks and 226 large sticks of cannabis sativa during a stakeout at the Mariakani weighbridge. Additional searches revealed a hidden motor vehicle number plate.

The suspects and seized drugs were taken to Moi International Airport Police Station for further investigation, where the substances were confirmed as 456 kilograms of cannabis sativa by the government chemist.
