Detectives in Kakamega are investigating the death of a middle-aged man whose decomposed body was found at his home weeks after he reportedly sold a plot of land. Emmanuel Shikanda, the assistant chief of Eshibikhwa area, confirmed the discovery.
Neighbor Vitalis Mulunga, who was informed of the situation by the assistant chief, said that local police were alerted after neighbors reported a foul odor coming from the house. Upon investigation, they found Fredrick Imbugwa’s body in bed.
Police from Shikhoti responded to the scene and transported the body to a Kakamega facility for examination as investigations commenced.
According to the deceased’s family, Mr. Imbugwa had sold a piece of land and later claimed to have lost the proceeds to the woman he was living with. In a phone call with his sister, he allegedly threatened suicide, saying the woman had stolen his money.
Mulunga, a neighbor, relayed the family’s belief that Mr. Imbugwa may have taken his own life due to this financial loss and relationship troubles.
The family is now waiting for the results of a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
